Gun Loco For Xbox 360 Unveiled

Third-person shooter features heavily stylized characters blasting their way around an extraterrestrial penal colony.
Games publisher Square Enix on Monday formally introduced Gun Loco, a third-person shooter that will initially be released exclusively on Microsoft's Xbox 360 video gaming platform.

Gun Loco is a "sprint-style" shooter in which animation-style characters blast their way through the insane inhabitants of an extraterrestrial penal colony on a far-off planet. The game will debut in 2011, but Square Enix did not provide a more precise release date. Pricing information also was not immediately available.

"At the farthest reaches of the solar system, a collection of the craziest criminals in the universe are incarcerated on a remote prison planet with no walls and forgotten by society," Square Enix said in a statement about the game.

"In this long-abandoned world, the only rule is anarchy, as each faction fights in a bloodthirsty race for survival, power, and freedom," the publisher added.

The animated characters in Gun Loco—each of whom has their own, custom "kill moves" and taunts--were built from concepts by noted designer and toy maker Kenny Woo. Woo created the Brothersworkers series of action figures, which have become a cult hit among collectors.

"Kenny's incredible design style and unique characterization are a perfect fit for the bizarre world of Gun Loco," Square Enix said.

The game features single-player gameplay and multiplayer support for up to 12 players simultaneously across Microsoft's Xbox Live online gaming service. There was no immediate word from Square Enix on whether Gun Loco would be compatible with Kinect, Microsoft's new hands-free motion control system for the Xbox.
