SAP Cloud Plan On Track, Says McDermott

SAP profits are down -- temporarily the company insists -- but cloud revenues are up and are set for growth through the Concur acquisition.

Multi-tenant nuance for 'Simple' ERP Apps?
SAP talked about emerging "Simple" ERP apps at Sapphire, with the first being Simple Finance, which is already available. The idea is that these are refactored versions of existing ERP app functionality optimized to run on Hana. Yesterday McDermott told me they're optimized as multi-tenant services on the Hana Cloud Platform -- a nuance I don't recall from Sapphire. Another bit of new news: last week SAP extended support for BusinessSuite 7 until 2025. So basically the existing on-premises apps will live on until 2025 while the cloud path forward will be Simple Finance, Simple X and Simple Y and so on until all ERP functionality is available as a Hana-optimized on-premises app or cloud-based service.

As one observer pointed out on Twitter, the "plan" keeps changing every quarter. This simple plan would seem to counter Larry Ellison's claim that SAP's "got nothing in the cloud until 2020" -- now 2025. The Simple Apps, as well as SaaS apps like Ariba, SuccessFactors, Hybris, Concur, etc., will all be on the multi-tenant Hana Cloud Platform, according to SAP.
