Layer 7 Unveils An All-In-One XML Appliance

Layer 7 Technologies has unveiled an XML appliance that contains the capabilities of four products, which can be licensed on an as needed basis by the customer.

Layer 7 Technologies has unveiled an XML appliance that contains the capabilities of four products, which can be licensed on an as needed basis by the customer.

One of the SecureSpan appliances is new, and the others are upgrades of three current products. The new XML Data Screen device provides high-speed threat prevention and content filtering for network data based on extensible markup language, or XML.

But what's most unique is how the products are packaged, Jason Bloomberg, analyst for ZapThink LLC said.

"Perhaps the most interesting thing about Layer 7's product strategy is that all four SecureSpan devices are all physically installed together," Bloomberg said. "All a customer needs to do is purchase the license key to unlock the capability they need."

The upgraded products include SecureSpan XML Accelerator for high-throughput document parsing, validation and transformation in a datacenter or with an enterprise service bus. XML Firewall and VPN is for advanced identity and message-level security for cross-domain, business-to-business and portal initiatives related to service-oriented architectures.

Finally, XML Networking Gateway is for policy-based message routing, mediation, virtualization, and governance enforcement of service level agreements and SOAs.

Pricing for the all-in-one appliances starts at $30,000. The device was unveiled Monday at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo in Orlando, Fla.
