SAP, HP Integrate BI Tools

Improved integration between SAP Business Warehouse and HP Neoview could help stave off competition from Oracle/Sun's Exadata 2.

SAP and Hewlett-Packard will announce Tuesday that they're working together to better integrate SAP's Business Warehouse and business-intelligence tools with HP's Neoview data warehouse. The work is intended to make it easier for customers to mine data not stored in SAP systems and provide greater scalability than what Business Warehouse can offer.

HP's Neoview, introduced in 2007, was specifically designed to manage data in excess of one petabyte. SAP is working to make its data warehouse scalable through such partnerships as a time when its arch competitor, Oracle, is touting its high-volume Exadata 2 warehouse built on Sun servers. SAP's deal with HP is similar to one announced in April, when SAP and Teradata said they were working to better integrate their data warehouses.

SAP and HP said they'll deliver the integrated warehouses "together," meaning customers could buy them from either company.

"What this is all about is data mart consolidation," said SAP executive VP Zia Yusuf, in an interview. "Through Neoview, you can combine native [SAP] data with unstructured data from other sources and then analyze the combined data," Yusuf said.
