Starting Off On The Right Foot

Optimism colors some key perceptions of IT managers.

OUTLOOK 2005Things generally are looking up among business-technology managers surveyed in InformationWeek Research's Outlook for 2005 survey, part of our quarterly Priorities series. Nearly half of the 300 respondents to the survey have positive outlooks regarding their companies' IT spending plans for the first quarter of the year, versus 39% a year ago. And more respondents answered yes than answered no this year, by a margin of 2-to-1, when asked if their IT careers looked promising, and whether their own personal productivity would rise because of better information technology.

That said, some of the outlook isn't quite as rosy. There's been a slight increase in the number of respondents who have negative outlooks concerning their company's IT project starts and initiatives in the next quarter, and a slight decrease in those who have positive thoughts on the matter.

To find out more about what business-technology leaders' priorities are in the New Year, check out InformationWeek's Jan. 3 issue.
