Cloud ROI: 4 Critical Considerations
Great article, Jonathan. I checked out the full version (It's only one click away, folks, don't be scared), and was very impressed with the production value there. Call me old-school, but graphs and charts do a lot to bring it home for me. You also make some very strong points over there about how meeting these ROI goals is easier said than done when it comes to the expertise, time, and money needed to get your solution up and running to begin with. That's certainly true with anything, but I think people are inclined to imagine 'cloud' as something that does the work for them (maybe we should have called it something else).
As you rightly point out, though, that doesn't mean the business case isn't there. Indeed, quite the opposite - if you do your math the right way, you'll see exactly how much you'll stand to save (or, not save) when it comes to cloud, instead of just having a rough estimate or a 'gut feeling'. I think we could all do with a little more of that in our business lives...but it won't be that easy to get people to leave their gut feelings on the shelf, especially if their gut feeling is what's keeping their department budget where they like it.
