Moving out, as well as moving in
Jonathan, Agree completely on point six, but for many IT opeations managers, the thought of being able to manage on-premises and cloud workloads with the same set of (VMware) tools may be too much to resist. It's probably not about the hypervisor so much as the set of tools you're already familiar with. Microsoft and Amazon are happy to take a VMware hypervisor-based workload and convert it to their environment. But VMware counters, "OK, so that isn't rocket science, how about moving it back on-premises?" Until cloud supplies embrace moving out as well as moving in, VMware is going to have an argument on ease of use. So far, those suppliers are being predictably short-sighted.
