Sun Unveils Improved Java Testing Tools

Sun Microsystems yesterday debuted enhanced versions to its JavaLoad and JavaStar testing products. The debut came just days after Sun moved to strengthen its Java development line by acquiring Forte Software Inc. and its SynerJ Java development environment.

The demand for industrial-strength Java testing tools is on the rise as more E-commerce, Web order-entry, enterprise resource planning, and call-center applications are built in Java, according to Sun. JavaStar is a graphical testing tool for Java-based applications, and JavaLoad is a load-testing tool for applications based on Java and other technologies.

The new releases, JavaStar 1.2 and JavaLoad 1.1, provide support for the Java Platform, Standard Edition, version 1.2. JavaLoad 1.1 also supports the Solaris 7 operating system and NetDynamics 5 application server, and offers an architecture that makes it easier to integrate future record/playback plug-in tools. Both products are available immediately: JavaLoad 1.1 pricing starts at $45,000, while pricing for JavaStar 1.2 begins at $1,195. Site licenses are available for each.
