Syntraxis Aspires To Elevate Social Networking

Aspirational networking is designed to help people interact, collaborate, network, and share ideas within a community that has common professional or recreational aspirations.

Syntraxis, a software startup that develops and hosts collaborative online E-learning services, is preparing to release a beta of "aspirational networking," which the company believes is the next stage in the evolution of social networking.

The concept is similar to popular social networking sites, such as MySpace, Facebook, Orkut, and Hi5. But the purpose of aspirational networking is different, according to Syntraxis. It's designed for people that want to engage, interact, collaborate, learn, network, and share ideas within a community that has common professional or recreational aspirations.

It goes beyond entertainment and makes the time spent online more valuable in achieving long-term goals. "Facebook could be a challenger as they have evolved into a platform for launching similar applications," said Rajan Dwivedi, president and CEO of Syntraxis.

Aspirational networking involves user-generation content, including blogs, wikis, articles, and RSS feeds to empower community members to engage in discussions and share information.

Syntraxis will release a white paper on aspirational networking in the coming weeks, in hopes of getting the beta version of the service off the ground. Additionally, the company has been promoting the concept on student-focused Web portals like and

"We want to break the barriers caused by packaged information that is often boring, one-way, and enforced on employees, students, and community members when they become part of any [community]," said Dwivedi. "Aspirational networking-based communities are socially and organizationally more acceptable, relevant, and bring sustained competitive advantage to the younger generation, professionals, executives, and enterprises."

Syntraxis plans to team up with domain providers to create portals for both consumers and enterprises.

Dwivedi said aspirational networking can create a new revenue channel for existing Internet companies, social networking sites, and enterprises. But as is the case with any nascent technology or concept, it has yet to find an audience and a business model before achieving the big-league status of Facebook and the like.
