Tivoli Rolls Out New Version of NetView

Tivoli Systems Inc. today unveiled a Windows version of its NetView network-management application designed for small to midsize businesses. Tivoli NetView-IT Director Edition marries Tivoli IT Director's Web-based automated system-management capabilities with NetView's network-device-management functions for companies with fewer than 1,000 employees.

NetView-IT Director Edition includes automatic device discovery to give administrators a current, and accurate, picture of all the assets on the network. Network managers can sort and view device information either by looking across a topology map or by using a network submap. The application offers data on things like system configuration, availability, and health.

Through the application, IT personnel can set error thresholds that, when exceeded, will instigate an alert. Network managers can organize network devices by type of equipment (e.g., routers or switches) or by business function. The application will ship in March. Pricing starts at $4,995.
