Toshiba Unveils Notebooks For Windows 2000

Toshiba's Computer Systems Group today introduced a new line of notebook PCs designed for the Windows 2000 operating system, which also made its official debut today.

Toshiba unveiled three new models in its Satellite Pro 4200 line. The Satellite Pro 4280ZDVD comes with a 500-MHz Pentium III processor and a 15-inch screen, while the Satellite Pro 4280XDVD comes with the same processing power and a 14.1-inch screen. At the low end, the company introduced the Satellite Pro 4260DVD, which features a 450-MHz Pentium III processor and 13.3-inch screen.

"Mobile is hot right now," says Ken Dulaney, VP of Mobile Computing at Gartner Group. "And we'll see a quick switch over to the new laptops offering Windows 2000." Dulaney says because of system requirements, it doesn't make sense to upgrade to Windows 2000 without upgrading to a new notebook.

Available this month, prices begin at $2,399. Toshiba will also offer free Windows 2000 software license upgrades for NT customers with selected desktops and notebooks.
