Thousands who use the IBM mainframe version of WorldSoftware, an older version of J.D. Edwards' enterprise resource planning applications, will soon be offered an add-on product that lets them integrate to IBM's WebSphere Commerce Suite E-commerce applications. In addition, IBM Global Services will establish a practice that will focus on letting WorldSoftware users access their back-office data via wireless phones and other devices.
The announcement could affect thousands of J.D. Edwards customers who, because of expense or other considerations, haven't upgraded to the latest version of J.D. Edwards' enterprise applications, OneWorld and OneWorld XE. J.D. Edwards will support WorldSoftware until 2004, and the new offering allows users to add basic E-commerce capabilities without having to upgrade.
IBM and Dutch enterprise integration application software vendor Seagull will offer a product in the fourth quarter of this year that integrates WorldSoftware users to IBM's WebSphere storefront and shopping-cart applications.
Dave Siebert, VP of J.D. Edwards' WorldSoftware support arm, says Seagull has worked closely with J.D. Edwards on other projects designed to enable users of the ERP vendor's legacy software to use E-business capabilities without upgrading to OneWorld. Seagull provides EAI connectors and server software that enables J.D. Edwards' WorldSoftware apps to communicate with IBM's WebSphere via XML standard messaging. J.D.
