Verizon Wireless Again Sues Alleged Information Thieves

The firm has both filed a civil suit and obtained an injunction to stop a Florida-based company from fraudulently obtaining information about Verizon customers.

Verizon Wireless said Wednesday has taken legal action against a private investigation firm that the cellular operator claims has fraudulently stolen customer information.

The company said in a statement that it has both filed a civil suit and obtained an injunction to stop the Florida-based company from fraudulently obtaining information about Verizon customers.

The civil suit, filed in Hillsborough County, Florida, claims that the Global Information Group used various schemes to gather confidential information from Verizon. The cellular operator also took legal action in September against a Tennessee-based private investigation firm that Verizon claimed was also fraudulently obtaining customer information.

At that time, a spokesman for the company said representatives of the private investigation firm posed as Verizon Wireless customers supposedly seeking information about their own account.

In the latest action, Verizon Wireless said the court issued a temporary restraining order to prevent further attempts by the defendant to obtain information. In addition, the court issued an order allowing Verizon Wireless to seize information the defendants gathered, an order that Verizon said was carried out by Sheriff's deputies on Monday.
