Social media network imeem has announced the acquisition of Web music player Anywhere.FM

The company announced the acquisition Monday, saying it will add to the site's uploading capabilities and expand its services. The terms of the deal haven't been disclosed.

Anywhere.FM allows users to upload MP3 files to the Web and stream their music from any browser. The desktop uploader works for individual songs or with entire libraries.

It works with iTunes, WinAmp, and Windows Media Player to upload playlists, ratings, and play counts with a single click, imeem said. Users can then access songs through smart playlists, visual tools, and dynamic search.

Anywhere.FM also offers "Friend Radio," which lets users stream their friends' playlists. Finally, users can access a special search function to find others who share their taste in music.

Anywhere.FM's co-founders Anson Tsai, Lux Chen, and Sachin Rekhi launched the Web player last year with funding from Y Combinator. They will join imeem and work from the company's San Francisco headquarters. "Since our launch last year, Anywhere.FM has given tens of thousands of consumers the convenience of enjoying their personal music collections from any browser," Rekhi said in a statement. "Our team will now have the opportunity to continue that vision with imeem and enhance the ability for imeem's community of over 20 million users to share and discover music and video."
