Kamelian specialises in the design and manufacture of advanced semiconductor optical amplifier components for optical network applications. The company has state of the art device fabrication and packaging facilities in the UK. Products range from discrete SOA and SLD devices to more complex integrated products based on these technologies such as wavelength converters.

Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs) and Superluminescent Diodes (SLDs) Based on InP semiconductor technology from its state of the art manufacturing facility in Oxford, Kamelian's focus is the production of low cost and compact optical amplifiers and SLDs with best in class specifications, especially, for the SOAs, with respect to noise performance and polarization dependent gain. The SLDs feature high power, low peak gain ripple, and a broad spectral width.

Compared to incumbent technologies, SOAs also offer the key advantage of integration capability with other active and passive components, operation across a wide range of wavelengths from 1270 nm to 1610 nm and the opportunity to further reduce cost with monolithic arrays of individual SOA elements. Kamelian's existing SOA products include optical pre-amplifiers with high gain (>20dB) and optical boosters with high output power (>13dBm), operating both at 1310nm as well as in the C-band.
