Wi-Fi Certified program is making strides to promote mobile convergence. Wi-Fi Certified 802.11n draft 2.0, which improves throughput and WLAN coverage, is almost ready for enterprise deployment. Wi-Fi Certified voice has programs in development to add performance to voice calls, including better voice quality, roaming, and additional network intelligence and efficiency.
Wi-Fi Alliance notes that Wi-Fi Certified products bring interoperability and better user experience to WLAN technology; more than 4,300 products certified since March 2000. The Alliance provides this presentation to detail other benefits of Wi-Fi.
The Wi-Fi Alliance is a strong proponent of Wi-Fi Mobile Convergence (WMC) and has prioritized efforts to make the integration of Wi-Fi and mobile devices easier and to improve the performance of the voice and multimedia applications that are at the core of converged services. The Wi-Fi Alliance manages robust testing and certification programs. This white paper published by Wi-Fi discusses the main drivers behind WMC and role of the Wi-Fi Alliance in promoting WMC through its certification programs and its collaboration initiatives with industry and standards associations.
