Software developers seem always to be the victim of many of the tradeoffs, as they are forced to wade through a myriad of arcane kernels, drivers, development tools, techniques, and documentation instead of doing what they enjoy most: developing the domain-specific application being asked to deliver. The .NET Micro Framework was developed in Microsoft Research by the Smart Personal Objects Technology (SPOT) team to serve as the platform for both commercial products and research projects to be rapidly developed using Visual Studio and the familiar .NET programming model.
