XML Vendors Merge, Will Offer Extended Products And Services

DataChannel Corp., maker of Extensible Markup Languageapplications, yesterday gained a services business by mergingwith Isogen. The combined companies will offer a range ofproducts and services for deploying XML applications. Termsof the deal were not disclosed.

The merger will bolster DataChannel's XML Framework, apackage of products and services that includes DataChannel'sXML applications and systems integrators. Isogen bringsexperience in designing, integrating, and implementing XMLapplications for clients such as Chase Manhattan Bank,Lockheed Martin, Lucent Technologies, and Nortel Networks.The combined companies will employ about 40 systemsintegrators. "This is the largest concentration in the worldof people who are intimately familiar with building XMLapplications," says George Kondrach, general manager atIsogen.

DataChannel and Isogen will work to flesh out DataChannel'sXML Framework 4.0, due for release next quarter. They willenhance the framework's XMLBluePrint, XML Design andArchitecture, and training components. "We'll be puttingtogether a packaging of the XML Framework so otherintegrators, consultants, and developers can licensetechnologies, for example," Kondrach says. "We think XML hasits greatest value in becoming ubiquitous."
