Tibco Software Inc., an integration and process management software maker, said Tuesday that it is adding open source and commercial third-party Ajax components to its Web application development framework.

The Tibco General Interface will include the Dojo Toolkit, Yahoo user interface components, Google Maps, Direct Web Remoting and other AJAX libraries. The General Interface currently includes more than 90 pre-built graphical user interface controls, along with Ajax communication, data, publish and subscribe event services, logging and debugging.

Ajax, which stands for Asynchronous Javascript And XML, is an application development method that combines Javascript and XML to build more interactive Web pages that behave like desktop applications. AJAX also allows the pages to retrieve small amounts of data from the server without reloading the entire page.

Dojo Toolkit components will be the first from a third party to be included in the General Interface library. The Ajax components will be included later this year, officials with the Palo Alto, Calif., company said.
