In an announcement Tuesday, EMC unveiled MozyEnterprise as well as a brace of resellers with clout in the enterprise world to market it.
Noting that it plans to build on the Mozy brand's success in the consumer and small business market, EMC said it will begin offering MozyEnterprise with its EMC Fortress data storage platform. EMC acquired Mozy as part of its Berkeley Data Systems buy for $76 million last October.
EMC announced MozyEnterprise under the umbrella of its software-as-a-service (SaaS) strategy. "Our strategy is focused on bringing new software-as-a-service offerings to market," said Tom Heiser, senior VP and general manager of EMC's SaaS Business Unit, in a statement. "We've introduced EMC Fortress, a secure, multitenant, scalable SaaS delivery platform providing customers with centralized billing, management, and metering."
Founded in 2005, Berkeley Data Systems quickly jumped into the online storage business with its desktop and laptop backup products for about $5 a month plus additional monthly charges. Server backup was added later.
A Mozy spokesman noted that the company had begun to move into the business of supplying online backup to larger companies when it landed a major contract with GE. EMC observed that additional large enterprises use the Mozy technology, including Pariveda, NTG Systems, and Vanderbilt University.
In addition to the EMC Fortress platform link, the data storage company is promoting the advantages of other EMC products and services: EMC's RSA security division integrates key management, authentication, and authorization features, for instance.
EMC has signed up key resellers with presence in enterprise markets including Verizon Business, eFile Cabinet, FusionStorm, and TelX.
EMC's SaaS Business Unit is a new operation for the firm. Verizon Business, which has been offering e-mail, antivirus, and conferencing applications in a SaaS model, said it plans to begin offering MozyEnterprise in the spring.

"Our expanded relationship with EMC will help us to accelerate our ability to do so."
