Now that Gertrude is gone
Sniff!!

It's like when my mean, old aunt died. I couldn't stand her while she was alive and did everything I could to avoid her, but now that she's gone, I do miss her. Oh well, at least I'll Never have to look at MVS JCL again.

Mainframe architecture got it right
Young cloud architects probably weren't aware of it, but they were trying to build a mainframe out of really cheap parts. They concentrated on bringing large amounts of disk, memory and CPU close together with short, generous capacity pipes connecting them. That's what the mainframe did. But the box that the mainframe came in was rigid. It was hard to change it into something more elastic. The future belongs to the plain vanilla, elastic compute cloud and cloud software, also known as EC2.

Wall Street clouds
The big prediction here is that Wall Street is one recession away from the cloud shift. The argument has been that these huge computing users can run their computing cheaper, since they have the scale and aren't paying margin to the cloud vendor.

Cloud-based analytics
Another mention of CIO fondness for cloud-based anaytics tools. This topic keeps coming up. PS: Love Stu's sense of humor.

IT's Reputation: What the Data Says
InformationWeek's IT Perception Survey seeks to quantify how IT thinks it's doing versus how the business really views IT's performance in delivering services - and, more important, powering innovation. Our results suggest IT leaders should worry less about whether they're getting enough resources and more about the relationships they have with business unit peers.
