Moses' long-term Cisco chambers
It is interesting that in a such a fast-paced time with an admitted emphasis on change, John Chambers has remained at the helm for almost 20 years. I really enjoyed your take on the commandements; I wonder how these have evolved in the last two decades.

Speed and Consolidation
Great takeaways Drew. It will be interesting to watch the consolidation. The increasing pace for IT in terms of innovation and delivery is worrisome - it's already breakneck, isn't it?

Re: Speed and Consolidation
Chambers is right that IT is under intense pressure to be more responsive. One reason is that there are now technology options available outside of IT (think Salesforce or Dropbox). Another is that server virtualization suddenly made it much simpler to provision and scale compute resources, but business apps don't just run on servers. They also need storage, a network connection, security controls, etc. Most of that stuff has yet to catch up. Organizations can see the potential of more automated IT systems, and they're champing at the bit to get it to happen.

The Business of Going Digital

Digital business isn't about changing code; it's about changing what legacy sales, distribution, customer service, and product groups do in the new digital age. It's about bringing big data analytics, mobile, social, marketing automation, cloud computing, and the app economy together to launch new products and services. We're seeing new titles in this digital revolution, new responsibilities, new business models, and major shifts in technology spending.
