Some patients are a little leery, too. I think it's because 'value' is difficult to measure or quantify. While it's pretty easy to understand the correlation between $100 fee for an office visit, it's less simple to ascribe a value to a treatment. If a treatment/surgery has only a 15% chance of success and a 68% chance of long-term pain, is the value too small for a payer to authorize payment? What voice does a patient have? Transparency, as well as trust, is vital here.

Trust a bigger obstacle than technology
Pulling together the data to calculate value across the care continuum is certainly challenging, but I think a bigger problem is distrust in how value will be calculated. Doctors have told me the latest reforms are just another scheme to cheat them out of more money.
