To continue fellow blogger Mitch Wagner's discussion on blogging tools, I thought I'd share a bit of news from Wordpress. A new plug-in from Andy Moore, creator of Web2Txt, allows bloggers to create versions of their blogs that will be viewable on mobile phones. It will also allow bloggers to create posts for their blogs directly from their phones.The update from Mr. Moore will further enable the proliferation of Web 2.0 by allowing people to post to their blogs from anywhere they might happen to be. Scaling Web 2.0 to mobile devices is important step for the growth of these sites and communities. The easier it is to read and contribute to your favorite blogs from mobile devices, the more potential will be opened up for taking Web 2.0 properties in new directions.

The plug-in supports posting from just about any mobile phone, as well as uploading photos and files. The system will automatically detect that blog visitors are coming from a mobile phone or PDA and display the blog in a form most suitable for that device. It also includes a host of tools to allow bloggers to customize the templates for their mobile blog. It adheres to W3C and mTLD dotmobi standards and also enables bloggers to monetize their blogs with optional AdMob ads.

Visitors of the mobile blog sites will be able to see comments on their phones and leave them as well.

I haven't used any of these services, but I certainly see the value in being able to post from anywhere. Composing messages on mobile devices, however, is a different story. I don't think I'd mind pecking out posts on a QWERTY keyboard-equipped device, but I just can't imagine composing messages from a regular keypad will be all that fun. Of course, there are millions of teenagers out there who I am sure won't mind one bit.
