Flickr: The Biggest Reason Nokia Should Buy Yahoo

Posted by Stephen Wellman, Feb 7, 2008 05:16 PM

In my list of the top five reasons Nokia should buy Yahoo, I left out the most obvious reason of all: Flickr.

Call me crazy, but I think the combination of the world's biggest camera phone maker (and by extension the world's dominant maker of digital cameras) with the best Web 2.0 application for storing and sharing digital photos is a match made in heaven.

By acquiring Flickr, Nokia would be able to leverage its global dominance in the camera phone market and create a truly compelling synergy between its hardware and Yahoo's online services. If you factor in the ability to mix in mobile messaging services, like MMS, with the Flickr brand, this merger could get even more interesting.

What do you think? Can you think of some other reasons Nokia should buy Yahoo? What else have I left out of this discussion?
