3G iPhone Launch 'Confirmed' For June 9
Gizmodo is reporting that inside sources have confirmed that the 3G version of the iPhone will indeed launch on June 9, after Steve Jobs' keynote address at Apple's WWDC. It will be available worldwide, and price points will not be locked to one figure. I am going to caution that everyone take this news with a small grain of salt. True, all indicators over the last four weeks have pointed to a launch on or near June 9, but Gizmodo did not reveal exactly who the sources are. Also, remember that the 3G iPhone hasn't been cleared by the FCC yet. With only three weeks to go before the keynote, that's cutting it awfully close. Legally, the iPhone cannot be sold in the United States until the FCC says so. It'll sure spoil Steve Jobs' party if the FCC doesn't get around to approving the device until after June 9. Also, no other details of the device were made available. We know nothing about the other features it will definitely include. The second-generation iPhone will be available worldwide right after the launch, and not at year's end, as previously thought. The new model will also herald new sales policies in some countries. With supplies of the first-generation iPhone dwindling, Apple needs to get something onto store shelves soon. Many expect it will be the 3G iPhone. With this latest bit of information, it looks like that's what it is going to be. « Opera Mini Users Prefer To Be Social | Main | Is SaaS 'Unstoppable' For Open Source? » |
