Openmoko In The U.S. -- And Maybe In My Hands, Too
Looks like Openmoko's open source phone, the Neo FreeRunner, will be available in the United States as well as India and Europe. I can't wait to snap one up, but I might have to.

Right now the release plans are still very sketchy, but along with selling the phone through the Openmoko site, unnamed distributors in the United States will be getting the phone. Suggested retail price for the States is $399 -- take that, iPhone! -- although there's still no talk of subsidized purchase through a service provider.
Most importantly, I've been in touch with the Openmoko press people and may get a chance to look at a unit a little later in the year. This is apparently to allow a newer version of the device's software to be made available. I'll see if I can get it running on my network (T-Mobile) and report the results.
