According to the inventory system over at Best Buy, there are not going to be a lot of Pres on hand when the device launches on Saturday. Just how bad will it be?Really bad.

A quick scan of the number of ordered Palm Pres in the greater Chicago area is enough to cause grave concern for anyone hoping to snag a new Palm Pre this weekend.

According to a screen shot of Best Buy's inventory system, most stores will have fewer than 10 devices at launch, with many stocking just two, four, or six. What's worse, a tipster informed Engadget that the numbers seen in this system are what managers have ordered, not what may actually show up. This means there could actually be fewer than the already-meager amounts on order.

If you're thinking about skipping Best Buy in favor of heading to a Sprint store instead, the news is slightly more favorable.

According to PreCentral, "We've now heard from multiple sources that Sprint Stores will be receiving daily shipments (Sundays excluded) of the hot new phone... So, if you show up on Saturday and they've sold out by the time you get to the door, call or stop back in on Monday, they may very well have more in stock by then."

That should offer at least a smidgen of hope to anyone out there seeking the Pre come June 6. Good hunting!
