RIM Shows Apple Some Love, Bringing BlackBerry Desktop Software To Macs

Research In Motion has officially announced that it is going to offer a Mac-compatible version of its BlackBerry Desktop Software in September.Oh, Happy Day! This means I might be able to ditch using Windows machines entirely. As a user of many mobile phones and mobile phone platforms, it is sad that so many still fail to support the Apple operating system. Sure, it doesn't have as many users as Windows does, but that doesn't mean Mac users should be left out in the cold -- especially when it comes to supporting their smartphones.
The only reason I use a Windows-based PC at all is so that I can install updates and applications for devices running Windows Mobile, Symbian S60 and BlackBerrry OS. Once September rolls around, I'll be able to scratch BlackBerry off of that list.

- Sync your iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks
- Add/Remove applications
- Update your device when new software becomes available
- Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption (security is #1 as always…)
- Manage multiple devices
According to RIM, the software will require Apple OS 10.5.5. Mac users who are interested in learning more can register here for alerts and such.
