Google Chrome For Mac Beta Now Available

Posted by Eric Zeman, Dec 8, 2009 11:39 AM

Mac users rejoice! Today Google has made the beta version of its Chrome browser available for Apple computers. The download is free.

I have been using one of the Chromium builds for about two weeks now. For the most part, it works well. It hasn't crashed, but I find it a bit slow (which is the opposite of Google's goal for the browser). Still, I like the user interface and the way the tabs and tools work.

Now, Chrome has reached a full beta state and Google is making the download available to whoever wants it. There are a few features missing when compared to the Windows version, such as a bookmark organizational tool, Gears support, Sync for Mac, multi-touch support, and App Mode.

Themes are available and it employs a preview page that shows recently visited sites each time you open a fresh tab.

What's most improved in the beta compared to the pre-beta version is speed. It is much, much faster now. The only unfortunate part was that I had to uninstall the pre-beta version and reinstall the beta. that means I lost all my settings. Oh well.

The download is available here.

Here's a video demo of how it works:
