Motorola is offering a system update for the device that makes some major improvements in battery life, screen accuracy and accelerometer accuracy. Too bad the CLIQ is stuck on Android 1.5, though.Despite the lack of a real upgrade in system software, the new update for the Motorola CLIQ should be welcome news indeed. Keep in mind, this new software is not an improvement of Google's Android operating system. The CLIQ continues to run the Android 1.5 "Cupcake" build. This updates different software to version 1.1.31.
According to Motorola, the 8MB download will cure a number of ills experienced by the CLIQ. Battery life of the phone will increase both when idle or when running applications. In fact, there is an entirely new "Battery Management" feature that allows end-users to customize how the CLIQ prioritizes tasks and consumes power.

The Bluetooth radio has also been improved. It now should pair to devices with less pain, and it also now supports hardware features on stereo Bluetooth headsets such as fast forwarding and rewinding. Let's not forget about TTY compatibility, which makes phone conversations easier for those who are hard of hearing.
Other fixes include better accuracy of the touch screen. The CLIQ should make fewer inadvertently placed phone calls due to accidental screen presses. In other words, no more "butt dialing." The CLIQ's accelerometer should be slightly more responsive (it was pretty bad before), call connectivity has been improved and Motorola says that connections to business-based email accounts should also be "better".
