Cellular handset maker Nokia will acquire German mapping software company Gate5 for an undisclosed sum to tap into the fast-growing mobile navigation market. The acquisition will make it easier for Nokia to offer customers maps, routing, and navigation software on mobile phones.
Gate5 has developed more than 5,000 city guides, travel guides, and services for Telmap, TomTom, and others. The two companies vow continued support for the Java, Linux, Palm, Symbian, and Windows Mobile platforms.
