Healthland To Deliver Business Intelligence For Smaller Hospitals

Healthland and Performance Management Institute are partnering to deliver business intelligence systems for small community and critical access hospitals.

The Healthland Executive Information System will extract relevant information from Healthland's Financial System and Clinical System to improve decision-making. The new system is designed to help hospitals demonstrate that their information systems meet federal "meaningful use" criteria in the areas of quality and efficiency improvements.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, part of the federal government's economic stimulus package, sets aside funding to help healthcare providers invest in IT systems, provided those systems are implemented for "meaningful use." The Department of Health and Human Services is currently developing the definition of meaningful use. It's expected to have that done by the end of the year.

Healthland's system will also help hospital staff get fast answers to questions on billing cycles, operating revenue, and operating expenses. It will provide information to help providers make strategic and tactical decisions and reduce the amount of time and money spent to gather data and generate reports. The system will also offload staff so they can concentrate on more important tasks. And it will let hospitals compare their current performance with that of past reporting periods, and also compare their performance with similar hospitals across the country.
