Lenovo on Thursday introduced a sub-$400, low-power business desktop that runs on an Advanced Micro Devices processor.
Specifically for business, the A62 is available with Lenovo's optional Dash 1.1 card, which lets an IT department remotely manage, boot, audit and update a desktop.
The desktop also has the computer maker's ThinkVantage Technologies, which is software that includes a number management tools for building corporate software images, migrating end user data and settings, and deleting data and updating the system remotely. In addition, the tools provide "one button" recovery from system crashes quickly, even if the primary operating system will not boot.
The A62 is also available with AMD's ATI Hybrid CrossFireX GPU and other technologies for higher graphics performance.
"The new ThinkCentre A62 was built to provide business customers with longer PC buying cycles," Dilip Bhatia, executive director of global desktop marketing at Lenovo, said in a statement. "It combines top-notch performance, manageability and environmental responsibility in a high value machine."
Pricing for the ThinkCentre A62 starts at $399. The system is scheduled to ship in September.
Lenovo has spent the summer hoping to grab the hearts and minds of business purchasers. In July, the company introduced a new line of sub-$900 notebooks for small and mid-size companies. The SL series of ThinkPads is powered by Intel's Centrino 2 mobile platform. The product line also includes built-in support for AT&T's 3G data network and integrated Wi-Fi support, including the latest 802.11n standard, which is fast enough to support wireless video streaming.
