Palm Re-Invents The 'Clamshell'

A post on the PalmAddict site says palmOne has been granted a patent for a unique smart phone design. Like some existing devices, it's a clamshell form-factor... sort of.

Folded in half lengthwise, it's a phone. Opened up, it's a PDA. The difference is that the concept sports a flexible screen. When open, the screen goes across the fold to cover most of the surface of the device, maximizing screen size.

It's a fantastic idea because you get the advantage of a small, phone form factor when making calls, but a large-as-possible screen for surfing the web, replying to e-mail and playing games.

Now all we need is the affordable flexible screen technology that will make it possible.
