Here comes security as a service, freeing businesses from having to invest in software, appliances, and monitoring equipment. AT&T last week rolled out a network-based security service that screens Web content and IM traffic for malware. ... Trend Micro revealed that its OfficeScan 8.0 software will be the first to include the company's Web Reputation service, which warns Internet users about Web sites and traffic that could infect their PCs with spyware, keyloggers, and other malware. ... After 70% of 100,000 customers polled said they'd like to use a Linux-based system, Dell has decided to expand Linux support to its OptiPlex PCs and Latitude notebooks. ... Wal-Mart has joined with the University of Arkansas and Blue Cross Blue Shield to create a research center to investigate ways to use IT to improve health care delivery. The retailer is donating $1 million over five years to fund the Center for Innovation in Health Care Logistics at the university. ... In a bid to regain sales lost to Advanced Micro Devices, Intel unveiled a microarchitecture that will let it produce four cores on a single chip. ... To maintain its position as the leading free E-mail service, Yahoo Mail plans to offer unlimited E-mail storage starting next month. Since 2005, it has provided customers with 1 Gbyte of storage.
