Part Shortages Prevent Droid From Setting Sales Records

According to Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam, Verizon Wireless can't keep the Droid Incredible in stock. McAdam said that component shortages are constraining supply. Were it not for the supply issues, McAdam believes the Droid Incredible would have already outsold the Motorola Droid.Should we blame Samsung Electronics for this? That's what McAdam says we should do. HTC is having a hard time manufacturing the Droid Incredible in sufficient quantities because Samsung Electronics can't supply it with the necessary touch screens fast enough. Other components are said to be in short supply, but McAdam didn't name them.

Verizon says it sold 100,000 of the Droid Incredibles the first two days the device was available, but since then it hasn't been able to keep the device in stock.

"When a shipment gets to a store now, it's gone in a matter of hours," he said. "We've had to pull way back ... Right now supply is a big problem."

McAdam said the Incredible would "definitely outsell" the Motorola Droid were there no supply issues. Right now, the best way to get one is to order online. In a check on Verizon Wireless' web site, it indicates that "due to high demand" the Droid Incredible will not ship until June 7. If you happen to see one on a Verizon Wireless retail store shelf, grab it quick before someone else does.
