Netgear debuted its latest security appliance today, the ProSecure UTM50, an $899 Unified Threat Management device that addresses firewall, ant-virus, URL filtering , spam and other aspects of network security. The new Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliance rolled out today by Netgear offers a single box approach to tackling the array of security challenges small and midsized businesses face, and does so, according to the company, while minimizing the latency and lag-time that can compromise security tools.

Features include: firewall, SSL and IPSec VPN, URL filtering, network antivirus, and antispam.

The ProsSecure UTM50, while a bit pricier than some models in the ProSEcure line, offers far higher anti-virus and VPN throughput, as well as a vastly increased number of concurrent connections (40,000 with the UTM50 vs. 8,000 with the UTM5) for businesses needing those levels.

The increased robustness of the UTM50 should make it a solid consideration for businesses whose networks and Web presence are themselves robust and growing. The $899 price covers all connected devices -- there's no per-seat pricing.

Netgear offers a free trial of the product; registration and other information required.
