CommVault is targeting small and midsize businesses with its Cloud DR, a cloud-based disaster recovery solution.

The flexible solution leverages the integration between CommVault's enterprise cloud computing-optimized Simpana software and Rackspace's cloud hosting services. Using CommVault's integrated cloud storage connector for Simpana, joint customers can use CommVault's single console to move on-premises backup and archive data to Rackspace Cloud Files, which provide online storage for files and media, according to CommVault. This allows customers to cut internal IT costs by moving archived or infrequently used files and email off their tier-one storage solutions, the company said.

CommVault's Cloud DR offering gives businesses an economical method to perform full or partial recoveries of Linux and Windows archives and backup data stored on Rackspace Cloud Servers, according to CommVault.

"CommVault is redefining mid-market disaster recovery by offering a fully integrated Cloud DR solution, which reduces the financial challenges associated with traditional DR services that provide affordable and rapid recovery of backup and archive data residing in the cloud," said Jeff Echols, senior director of cloud strategy and alliances at CommVault.

New and existing Simpana software customers can purchase a per-terabyte capacity license from CommVault, which enables them to easily store data on-premises or in the Rackspace cloud. CommVault customers can purchase Cloud Files storage for approximately 15 cents per gigabyte per month.

"CommVault's seamless integration of Rackspace cloud services will have a strong appeal to CommVault's customers that want to extend more data into the cloud while reducing disaster recovery risk without overburdening constrained IT budgets and resources," said Nishan Sivathasan, director of corporate development at Rackspace. "With Cloud DR, CommVault is accelerating the delivery of a new type of cloud-based DR solution."
