re: 6 Ways To Beat IT Career Burnout
Great tips - I particularly like and have done number 3 in the past. When approaching a new organization, after getting accustomed to the climate, I like to look around and see what the rest of the company does. Not only does it help when you need to provide support for those users, but it also helps to understand how the business itself works and what you can do to improve the service level and / or functionality delivered to those users.
Additionally, number 5 is never a bad idea, whether you're approaching burnout or not. An IT resource that fails to keep current will soon fail to keep a job. When I was in school, a discussion with the department head revealed the fact that classes were taught on a 3 semester rotation and what was amazing to me is that classes were never taught twice - technology moves at such a break-neck pace, that keeping up requires relatively large changes every 18 months.
