IT Reputation: Give A Little, Get A Lot

They say perception is reality. If so, many in-house IT departments have reason to worry. InformationWeek's IT Perception Survey seeks to quantify how IT thinks it's doing versus how the business really views IT's performance in delivering services -- and, more important, powering innovation. Some findings:

>> 72% of IT respondents completely agree that IT should work closely with business executives to develop innovative applications; just 54% of non-IT respondents completely agree. 

>> 15% of non-IT respondents say their companies' business users are very or completely satisfied with quality, timeliness, and cost; 30% of IT pro respondents think satisfaction is that high.

>> 44% of IT pros say IT plays an extremely important role in business innovation; only 33% of business pros agree. (Both figures are higher than 2012, however.) 

>> 70% of IT pros agree with the statement: "IT is integral to the business; we'd be dead in the water without them." 60% of biz pros see things that way, up from 43% two years ago.

>> 71% of IT pros say IT will be more important to their company in two years than today; 64% of business respondents agree. (R8101014)
