Enterprise Management: Strengthening IT’s Core
Enterprise management is evolving from a break-fix mentality to a discipline that enables IT to be a proactive business partner with an emphasis on service. There are many paths to this goal. Whether you subscribe to the ITIL framework or to a general notion of making IT perform as an internal service provider, you must have a strong operational core.
We’ll evaluate the elements required to develop this core, including configuration management databases, fault and performance monitoring, application performance management, service desk and service catalog.
We’ll also look at the current state of enterprise management based on results of InformationWeek’s 2011 State of Enterprise Management Survey. While trends in enterprise management are pushing IT to evolve toward a service organization, our results shows there’s still a distance to go. (R3010711)
