ShowTrail

ShowTrail edits the software NER - "Network Exchanges Reporter" - which is doing network nodes traceability. By traceability, we mean storing the history of all network exchanges between all computers on several network nodes. As the software knows everything on what has happenned in the past, it is able to alert the administrator in case of bandwidth abuse of any computers or groups of computers. Also, as for all connections, the response time is registered for each of the 2 speakers, then the administrator can create a monitoring task with thresholds in order to detect when response time is too much increasing. On a large network with thousands of computers, for 1 year of data stored, It's hundreds of billion of connections which are registered but the software is coded in low level language so it has unbelievable performance. Firefox or IE are most of the time giving the delay!

Whitepaper: Network Exchanges Reporter - Network Nodes Traceability Product

by ShowTrailApr 21, 2008

For many years, in most industries, traceability is essential, and very often is mandated by the State. And since Sarbanes Oxley, traceability is mandatory for the information systems bound to financial transactions of a company quoted on the stock market. In most of our systems, traceability is done with logs which provide the history of all transactions. But for networking, it seems that traceability is unknown. Currently, we don't get an accurate picture of how we use our networks, which computers are consuming most of the bandwidth, in which proportion, at what period of the day. This deficiency could be satisfied with the traceability of data exchanged between all computers communicating over the networks. From this knowledge, we could focus our efforts on real causes of bandwidth soaring. In the end, networks cost would be better controlled. NER - Network Exchanges Reporter - is an answer to our needs on network traceability. It holds the history of all network exchanges between computers for years.

To summarize, the main goals of NER are:

- to lower networks infrastructures costs by detecting computers abusing bandwidth.
- to get a complete knowledge on any past period of networks exchanges on a communication node.
- to anticipate critical applications performances issues by detecting increase of servers responses time.
- to provide crucial information on networks exchanges between computers involved in an incident which may occurred several weeks ago.

Whitepaper: Lower Network Infrastructure Cost with Traceability

by ShowTrailApr 15, 2008

Since many years, in most of all industries, traceability is essential, and very often is mandated by the State. Besides, since Sarbanes&Oxley act, traceability is mandatory for the information systems bound to financial transactions of a company quoted on stock market. In most of our systems, traceability is done with logs which provide the history of all transactions. But for networking, it seems that traceability is unknown. Firstly, what is traceability for networks? Do we suffer from its absence? What are its benefits? This article highlights all traceability benefits and most of all how it is an essential control in order to lower network cost.

Whitepaper: Next step for a better control of our networks

by ShowTrailApr 01, 2008

This article highlights the main concepts which enable to well control company's networks. It shows presently the absence of traceability on data exchanged between computers over the network in order to make audits, lead investigations and detect abuses.
