Whitepaper: Creation of Bridge Records in a Child - Parent - Grandparent Structure

by PRENEVOST.COMMar 06, 2008

Describes, in detail, how to create record for a bridge table structured as the "parent" in a child > parent > grandparent design. Bridge tables are required to resolve one-to-many relationships between a fact table and a dimension. This bridge table design and the technique described identifies and reuses unique sets or groupings of dimensions, identifying each such set with a number which is then used as the foreign key in the fact table. While not applicable to all situations, it is an elegant solution, especially where impact analysis (intentional double-counting) is desired.
