Jack Of All Trades, Master Of None
InformationWeek surveyed 183 business technology professionals who use UTM products, or have used or evaluated them in the past 12 months, and asked them to provide feedback on performance and features, including reliability and cost.
The upshot? Vendors average a passing grade for general performance criteria and product-specific features, but few users are singing the praises of these appliances. Given that UTM products have to perform a variety of security functions, it may be that users don't necessarily expect greatness. For some IT pros, UTM devices only need to be good enough, particularly if they provide other benefits, such as marked cost savings or operational simplicity. (R6240113)
