Reducing TCO, While Improving Time-to-Value
While this article identifies that clients are motivated by the reduced total cost of operations (TCO) by moving some of their enterprise applications to the cloud, the CompTIA Study also identifies that time-to-value is also a motivator. Clients that move their workloads to the cloud get the benefit of dramatically improving the time required to deploy and manage these workloads. The business is able to gain new value from workloads that can be exposed in new ways, as an examplle, via Systems of Engagement interacting with customers via mobile devices.
It is important to note that while many clients favor Private Cloud implmentations of their workload, it is becoming increasingly more important to provide workloads the flexibility of leveraging Private, Public, Hybrid, and Communnity Cloud environments, depending on the economic and business objectives of the application. Therefore the solution the client selects has to be able to easily adapt or interact with these cloud environments as well as the Enterprise Systems of Record to be viable. This points out that not all cloud solutions are equal, they all have their unique caveats that bring both advantages and limitations be considered.
Also, not all workloads/applications are suited to the be deployed in the Cloud. Clients need to consider each application in terms of its economic, business, security, geospacial, political, and risk profile requirements. This mandates that clients carefully consider which workloads are moved to the Cloud, and how that will be accomplished.
