Coral8 has released an upgrade of its complex event processing engine that includes greater configuration flexibility. In addition, the vendor has beefed up the Coral8 Portal with more visualization options, including drill-down support.

Coral8 Engine Release 5.4 adds flexibility by making it possible to change and dynamically re-configure services configurations, the vendor said. In addition, automatic schema matching offers more flexibility in connecting streams between pipelined or parallel projects.

Also, developers can specify database/remote procedure call cache properties and clear the DB/RPC cache on demand directly via application logic in Coral8's Continuous Computation Language.

The CCL includes enhancements to simplify the expression of sophisticated logic. The Coral8 Portal improvements include new 3-D charting and drill-down functionality that provides deeper analytic capability to business users, the company said.

Along with improvements in its engine and portal software, the CEP vendor has also enhanced its graphical development environment for building, testing and deploying Coral8 components and modules. Improvements are in debugging and an Eclipse plug-in provides a "light Studio" environment for Java developers to run queries.

The recently released Coral8 Engine 5.4 is available for download at not charge. The free license only covers developing, evaluating and testing CEP applications.

CEP software offers speed-to-insight advantage over conventional business intelligence technologies and approaches. CEP, first put into use on Wall Street and in super-secret intelligence applications, spots patterns in complex, high-volume data while its streaming through business systems and applications.
