IBM on Monday offered free code and support information for developers working with Cloudscape, its small-footprint Java relational database.

Cloudscape, which IBM earlier this month said it was donating to the open-source Apache Software Foundation, has a petite 2MB footprint and is designed for embedded applications. Apache has renamed the database Derby, and makes the source code available here.

The new resources for Cloudscape/Derby include numerous articles, technical advice, sample code, and a free downloadable version of the Cloudscape database code, said IBM. The company has also scheduled a September 8 Cloudscape Webcast for developers.
