Analysis and reporting software maker QlikTech boosted the capabilities of its main business intelligence product with an eye toward increasing the volume of analysis the product can handle and enabling faster analytics without requiring data integration.
The upgrade, QlikView 7, supports Intel's x64 and Itanium 64-bit platforms, which remove the 4 gigabyte memory limit of 32-bit systems. QlikTech said support for 64-bit processors has resulted in sub-second respose times on queries, the ability to process bigger datasets performed by more users. QlikView 7 doesn't require aggregating records for analysis, as cube-based OLAP tools do. Instead, QlikView queries records in memory, calculating measures quickly and across multiple dimensions. The software loaded data as quickly as 4 million recors per second during the testing phase, QlikTech said. The improved software supports ad hoc queries, analysis and reporting through a single platform. It supports a Web browser-based client that does require any software installation on individual PCs. A QlikTech spokesman put pricing for a typical QlikView 7 deployment in the "mid to high five figures." QlikView 7 was beta tested by more than 80 companies and other organizations. QlikTech is based in Lund, Sweden, with U.S. headquarters in Raleigh, N.C.
