A rumor is circulating online that TiVo will announce at the upcoming CES show next month in Las Vegas a partnership with DirecTV and Dish Network over mobile content. The idea is to unite on a standard for supporting content that can be viewed on portable devices.I hope the rumor is true. Standardization is a good thing for you and me. But it seems unlikely that they'll support Apple's iPod standard for TV and video -- the unity is probably more of a circling-the-wagons thing against the iTunes attack.

Best case scenario: We end up with two major standards for playing videos on mobile players.
